Complete renovation of an apartment in the centre

 190 sq.m. + 70 sq.m. extension | Year 2012

Once an office made up by a sequence of rooms lined up on a dark corridor, it is now a cosy home that has been completely transformed, extended and livened up by new living areas

In a typical "Umbertina" house in the city centre, near the Citadel and the renewed city routes. The rational and squared space typical of this portion of the city has been skewed by new view points due to a "pop" approach - so dear to the client - and to the annexation of a part of the overhead attic.

In the renovation work the old cherry and oak floorboards, as well as the doors and their frames and a series of details of the period have been preserved and enhanced; whilst resins, silk-screened glass, elements from the ‘70s and some vintage pieces foster a dialogue between the different eras and enhance the overall perception.

The most important intervention consisted in the recovery of a portion of the attic, completely rebuilt to accommodate a new large master bedroom with a fireplace, a small terrace on the roof set in a modernly glazed dormer, and a bathroom with a large shower. The connecting staircase and the new volume were set into an extra-clear, extra-light glass box, which makes the restoration work delicate and gives a new light and a sky view to the quarters below, like a giant skylight.
